Barnsley Methodist Circuit serves most of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and also a part of West Yorkshire. Formerly a mining area the community is gradually experiencing some urban regeneration. Barnsley is a thriving market town with a lively shopping centre.
The Circuit is one of the largest Circuits in the country with over 1,020 members, 30 churches and a team of seven ministers, one Deacon and four lay workers. We therefore provide a presence in not only the town but in many of the ex-pit villages around the Borough.
Our churches vary in size considerably and, consequently, in the range of programmes that each one offers. However, across the Circuit as a whole there is both widespread children's work and a good commitment to meeting together for fellowship. There is also a growing determination to work together in the Circuit to develop still further our life, so that existing members can grow in their faith and non-Christians have plenty of opportunities to discover Christ for themselves.
