Barnsley Methodist Circuit serves most of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and also a part of West Yorkshire. Formerly a mining area the community is gradually experiencing some urban regeneration. Barnsley is a thriving market town with a lively shopping centre.
The Circuit has 26 churches with a combined membership of 965 members who are served by a team of seven Ministers, one Deacon and four Lay Workers. We therefore provide a presence in not only the town but in many of the ex-pit villages around the Borough.
Our churches vary in size considerably and, consequently, in the range of programmes that each one offers. However, across the Circuit as a whole there is both widespread children's work and a good commitment to meeting together for fellowship. There is also a growing determination to work together in the Circuit to develop still further our life, so that existing members can grow in their faith and non-Christians have plenty of opportunities to discover Christ for themselves.
